National robotics competition success

Congratulations to Yihan Lu (Year 10), who competed in the New Zealand VEX V5RC National Championship last weekend. As the captain, Yihan led his 22020C team to win the Middle School Tournament Champion title. In addition, the team was awarded the Excellence Award, which represents the highest overall achievement at the event.
The VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC) is an
international robotics programme in which students design, build and
programme robots to compete in strategic, game-based challenges.
Teams are assessed not only on match performance, but also on
engineering design, teamwork, documentation and interview presentation.
The Excellence Award is the most prestigious award at the
competition. It recognises the team that demonstrates overall
excellence across all judging categories — including robot
performance, engineering notebook quality, design process, and team
professionalism. Receiving both the Tournament Champion title and the
Excellence Award reflects consistent performance at the highest level.
Yihan and his team will now represent New Zealand at the VEX V5RC World Championship, which will be held in St Louis, USA, from 22-30 April 2026.
Well done, Yihan!
