Student support

Student wellbeing

At the heart of Kristin's values is a belief that the best education does more than simply instil knowledge in the minds of students.

It's about nurturing their mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing, so that they can grow and reach their potential. Our school Deans and Wellness Team in collaboration with students, staff and parents play a key role in providing this support in a safe and positive environment.

Wellness Centre
Kristin’s dedicated Wellness Centre, led by our Director of Wellbeing, works in collaboration with staff and parents to provide pastoral care for students. The Kristin Wellbeing Framework guides our all staff to promote a holistic approach to wellbeing. We recognise four fundamental elements vital for fostering comprehensive wellness: body, mind, community, and spirit. Our approach always centres on the individual as a whole, taking into account their environment, cultures and context.

Counselling

Our team of five counsellors guides students through school, school-life, and broader life challenges with a positive approach. Working in close partnership with other pastoral staff, parents and external agencies, our counsellors ensure students receive well-rounded, effective support.

Chaplaincy

Kristin’s chaplaincy fosters a safe and welcoming environment that encourages students to explore spirituality in meaningful, creative and respectful ways. With a strong commitment to inclusivity, the team supports all students, honouring each individual’s unique background and beliefs.

Nurses

Our nurses are dedicated to delivering comprehensive physical and emotional care to support students. In addition to providing daily healthcare services, the team coordinates a range of preventative health programmes including immunisations, vision and hearing screenings and dental therapy.

Enhanced Learning

In Middle and Senior School Enhanced Learning, our goal is to work with students who find areas of learning a challenge and teach them strategies to overcome these barriers.

This is done in class so the strategies are applied in real-life contexts. We can also screen students to learn more about how they think and where their areas of challenge are. This can lead to Special Assessment Conditions in Senior School for formal assessments and exams without the need for an Educational Psychologist report.

Our support follows students from Year 7 through to Year 13. In Year 7 and 8, we work with the homeroom teachers to support students and identify students who may need more individualised support. In Year 9 onwards, our aim is to have an EL teacher assigned to these students, who will oversee their specialist support, right through until Year 13. All students with learning challenges are different and require different levels of support. We believe in an individualised, holistic approach to helping students in their learning.

Inclusive Learning

The Inclusive Learning team works across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools, providing a well-established system of support for learners to access the curriculum and achieve their potential. The team is responsible for coordinating provisions that meet the individualised educational requirements of students with learning needs, including gifted students and the twice exceptional.

The Inclusive Learning team at Kristin is made up of a team of Junior, Middle and Senior specialist teachers and learning assistants, who work with both staff and students to cater for students' learning needs.

In Inclusive Learning we:

  • Work with teachers to help them differentiate and adapt learning content to respond to learning differences in the classroom
  • Monitor students' progress to modify accommodations, where appropriate
  • Liaise with outside agencies such as Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and Paediatricians
  • Provide individualised support through learning assistant time and small group study support
  • Offer opportunities for Gifted students to collaborate with like minded students though our Critical Thinking Programme for gifted learners
  • We work closely with Deans, teachers, the Wellness Centre and families ensuring successful student transitions each year
  • The Inclusive Learning team can screen students using evidence-based assessments as well as complete class observations to help identify any potential learning needs.

We believe in a student-centred, holistic and inclusive approach to support students in their learning and parents are encouraged to provide information including specialist reports concerning their child’s learning needs to their child’s teacher, Dean or the Inclusive Learning team to ensure that your child’s Kristin journey gets off to a great start.
