Early Childhood Education

Children come to us full of unique capabilities and incredible potential and we are proud to play a part in giving them the best possible start to life..

LITTLE DOVES EARLY LEARNING CENTRE

Little Doves Early Learning Centre is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. They operate 48 weeks a year, with a 4-week break over Christmas and New Year. The early years programme begins in Little Doves Early Learning Centre for children from the age of 6 months to 4 years. This centre has been designed around three spacious, light-filled rooms for various age groups, providing generous spaces for children to play and explore but also creating intimate and cosy spaces within.

Little Doves Early Learning Centre opened in 2018 with a roll of 35 children and now has a full roll of 75 children. Little Doves has generous staff ratios of 1:3 for 0-2 year olds, 1:6 for two year olds and 1:8 for three year olds. The outdoor area offers an unrivalled 20 square metres of space per child, providing plenty of scope for physical play, exploration and freedom. The design team has focussed on enhancing the natural landscape, retaining the mature trees and large areas of grass, while adding many features that add to the rich potential for children’s play.

Attention has also been paid to the spaces and facilities created for staff at Little Doves. A well-resourced workroom and a large staff room overlooking the gardens reflect a commitment to supporting and empowering teachers in their work with children.

KRISTIN KINDERGARTEN

Once children turn 4, they transition to our well-established kindergarten. This is a special place where children begin their journey in the world of the International Baccalaureate. Here the teachers plan utilising the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki, interwoven with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

Our students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, goal setters, and enthusiastic lifelong learners through the provision of a stimulating and enriched curriculum that is strong in core academic areas and enriched through cultural, physical and artistic pursuits. Kristin Kindergarten works closely with the Junior School, accessing many of the facilities, specialist teachers and professional development for staff.
