2023 Senior School Production - Addams Family
Across three moonlit nights, the Kristin Auditorium “moved towards the darkness” as it was inhabited by everyone’s favourite ghoulish household – The Addams Family. This creepy, kooky and spooky musical has become one of the most produced musical productions across the globe in the last decade, and was a perfect fit for Kristin Performing Arts in this very special anniversary year for our school.
Following the story of Gomez & Morticia’s daughter, Wednesday Addams, falling in love with a boy from a ‘normal’ American family, The Addams Family is more than just a macabre magnifying glass on a twisted household. Through the side-splitting comedy, and the eccentrically brilliant musical score, the show sets out to celebrate difference, and promote acceptance – a timely message that could not be more important today. A cast of 25 students, 50 student crew members, and a band comprising students, staff and professional musicians worked in synergy to tango their way through graveyard line dances and moon magic, achieving absolute professionalism at all times. Bravo to every student involved, on and off stage, for embracing every challenge with gusto, and delivering absolute excellence at every step of the process.
Here at Kristin, we pride ourselves on ensuring each production process is of the highest quality, to guarantee our students experience theatre at its very best. This is only possible thanks to a highly-skilled Production Team. Collectively, this brilliant group worked theatrical miracles, and created a production platform that allowed every student to soar, offering them the opportunity to grow under their exceptional tutelage and mentorship. Thank you to this very special team for supporting our students through every moment of this uniquely Kristin experience.
With sold-out houses, and deafening standing ovations at each performance, audiences raved about The Addams Family for weeks to come. Among the glowing feedback sat three comments that proudly resonated with us all. The first, from a family who experienced their first Kristin Production:
“[We] came along to the show last night, which was our first experience of a Kristin production. It was next level amazing!! It was like a West End show, so slick, so professional, and so much talent!”
The next, from a long time supporter of the Performing Arts at Kristin:
“What a triumph! SENSATIONAL! We watched with pride and admiration as the superb cast put their heart and soul into all three performances, enthralled by the skilful musicians, sound, lighting, all the while knowing the backstage crew were working diligently too. And together, you all created magic we’ll never forget. It was hilarious, fun, and utterly captivating! There aren’t good enough words to describe it.”
The final, from Kristin’s new Middle School Principal and long-time member of the Kristin Performing Arts family, Kate Pollard:
“I am still reeling after last night’s performance. It was, quite simply, the best I have ever seen, ever, anywhere! I am in awe of the students! Genuinely.”
After 50 years of success in the Performing Arts, and a few years of disruption, it was humbling to see this cohort of students honouring the tradition of what has come before them on the Auditorium stage, and igniting a new flame as the next chapter begins. As we finally close the crypt gates and farewell The Addams Family, I, like Mrs Pollard, am genuinely in awe of our extremely talented students.
