Introducing Tim Oughton, Executive Principal

Mr Tim Oughton, M.Sc.Ed (Dist), B.Sc (Hons)

A fifth-generation teacher, Mr Oughton joined Kristin as Executive Principal in Term 1 2015. He is passionate about young people and believes that teaching is in his blood. He believes that a school culture is created primarily through positive human relationships and that a teacher - first and foremost - is a teacher of the person and secondly, the subject matter.

"Kristin is a school where it is OK to be different and to express oneself openly. It is a school that encourages initiative, competition and success and it is a school where every individual is known and feels part of the social group. Only when a student feels connected and happy with their lot, can they learn effectively. And I want them to learn in the most effective way possible."

Tim has come to Kristin from Scotch College in Adelaide, one of Australia's leading Independent schools, where he was Principal for eight years. Previously, he was the Headmaster of Scots College in Wellington, Acting Rector of St Andrew's College in Christchurch and a senior lecturer in science education at the Christchurch College of Education (University of Canterbury).
