2020 Junior School Production – Annie

In an unforgettable year, there has been no time where we have needed the optimism of a character like Annie more – inspiring us with her ability to find the light in every situation. The messages of Annie Jr could not be more relevant right now, making this the perfect show to conclude the Kristin Performing Arts season for 2020.
With global theatre shutdowns, the cast and crew of Annie Jr felt an exceptional amount of gratitude to be able to be on stage together, and share the experience with an audience of over 1,000 parents, friends and community members. As has become tradition in our Junior School productions, the students of Kindy and Year 0 began the 5pm performance with a pre-show item – singing an original song specifically written by Junior School Performing Arts Teacher, Edith Poon-Lai, reminding us to cherish every moment in life.
Here at Kristin, we highly value the importance of the arts in nurturing confidence and creativity in our students. For this reason, all of our Junior School students are part of our cast – allowing them to celebrate the arts on stage with their peers each year. It is incredible to witness the progression of talent through each year level, as they proudly take to the stage after a term of hard work learning choreography, music and characterisation. Many of our younger students step onto the stage for the first time through these production experiences, and they look up to the older students who act as fantastic role models, performing right beside them. Being able to bring the full Junior School together on stage is truly a delight.
However, rehearsing, costuming and staging a cast of 526 is no small feat, and is only possible thanks to some very generous parent and community volunteers, and an exceptional Kristin Production Team. Together, the tireless work of these committed individuals allows our students to shine on stage, in a professional theatrical setting. Thank you to this dedicated team, for working magic to create another exceptional flagship production event here at Kristin. Although the limelight may not shine directly their way, I certainly give them a rousing standing ovation.
From Zoom auditions, delayed rehearsals and a series of ‘2020 challenges’, the road to Annie Jr has been unique – yet, as always, every hurdle has been overcome thanks to the positivity and resilience of all who have been involved in making this production experience possible. As we wrap up this memorable year, Annie’s promise that “the sun will come out tomorrow” seems very fitting.
