Ecole La Source Dovetail Exchange

Arriving in Paris on a Saturday was exciting - I had two days to see the city before going to school. I had a bucket-list of things I wanted to get done, and have done all them!

I had to start a new one which was buying lots of kinder chocolate, Nutella, and other confectionaries.

Being here has certainly been an experience! On the very first day, an outdoor music festival on the Champs-Elysee. Whilst not specifically to my enjoyment, it was nice to meet some of my exchange student’s friends, and get to know some of the faces I would be seeing at L’ecole La Source.

School was long and hard. Not only are the days longer, but of course, it’s all in French, making it especially difficult. I wish I had known the speed at which people talk before going. It was very, very fast and they don’t stop or slow down, meaning you miss a lot.

I managed to visit many artistic attractions whilst here - I got tickets to Cosi fan Tutte (my favourite opera) at Opera Garnier, and also for The Merry Widow at Opera Bastille. It was really great to be there; places I thought I’d only see online, but all of a sudden, I was present and in the building.

Another highlight has been the sights! A couple of times after school, my exchange took me walking around the city for a few hours, stopping at all of the sites, the boulangerie and pâtisseries.

Other sights I’ve seen included Palais Versailles, le musee d’Orsay, the catacombs, and, of course, The Pompidou; my exchange, myself, and a couple of his friends visited a David Hockney expedition exploring his works and style through chronological order, and how they compared to each other and what he went through during the time they were painted. Again, this was definitely another highlight.

One of the great things here is the Mediterranean cuisine! One of the most famous places, of course, being Chez Hanna, and I visited there after the catacombs with Lauren and her exchange family. This has been a great experience, and I’m so happy I signed up for it!
