The Alpine Experience - Lake Wanaka and Cardrona

This year we are looking to offer an alpine experience based in and around Wanaka. We will be spending our days on the snow at Cardrona Alpine Resort.

The trip is open to all Middle and Senior School students who can either ski or snowboard and want
to enjoy skiing/riding on the mountain. While it is not designed specifically for intense race/freestyle
training, we can accommodate these students' needs through the HPC programme. The trip will be limited to 20 people.

When: TBA (July school holidays)

Cost: $3500 (Approx)

The cost includes airfares, transport, breakfast, lunch, dinner, lift passes, coaching and
accommodation. This does not include spending money or any extra activities that the student may choose to do.

Please note: This trip will only run if minimum numbers are met. Registrations must be in before the
end of February so that booking can be confirmed. The opportunity to make late bookings is not guaranteed and may incur additional costs.

Mt Ruapehu August Camps

All students from Year 4-13 have the opportunity develop their skills in skiing or snowboarding at Whakapapa, including night skiing and snowboarding, and staying at the Kristin Lodge.

Junior, Middle and Senior School Weekends
Year 4-7: 30 August - 1 September 2019
Year 8-13:  16-18 August 2019
Cost: $550
Package includes transfers to/from Whakapapa Village, two nights accommodation at Kristin Lodge, catered meals, daily ski area transfers, lift passes, coaching and rental equipment.

We depart school at 10am on the Friday morning, arriving at the Kristin Lodge approximately 3.30pm (after stopping at Te Kuiti for an ice cream / drink). We get the students unpacked and organised for the night skiing session from 5pm – 8pm (if the weather prevails). Only those students of intermediate level and up will be able to participate in this as it is under teacher supervision – no lessons. We will make sure the beginner level skiers / snowboarders are accommodated. Students will have a snack before the session and dinner afterwards. Wake up time in the morning is 6.30am, and we are on the mountain by 8.15am.

Students are put into groups according to their skill level and then they have instruction for a couple of hours in the morning. We all meet up for lunch, then assemble for afternoon instruction. We get back to the Lodge late afternoon, enjoy a hot milo, then ‘chill out' with a movie and games. We are up early the next morning, and onto the mountain again for instruction by 8.15 am. We have lunch at the Lodge, clean-up, leaving at about 2pm. We stop in Otorohonga at McDonalds for an early dinner, and are back at school by 7pm on the Sunday evening.

We have a caterer who has been cooking for us for a number of years, and who also does our Middle School camps. The food is healthy, nutritious and there is lots of it!! The students have filled rolls for lunch - their choice of fillings, and plenty of options including yoghurt, muesli bars, slices, fruit and drinks. They certainly don't go hungry!! Students with allergies are accommodated.

The weekend includes food, transport, accommodation which is in 2 big bunk rooms (girls and boys separated; the rooms are heated and very comfortable), transport to and from the mountain, ski hire, lift passes, and instruction by qualified ski / snowboard instructors. The total cost for the weekend is $550, with a reduction if the students have their own lift passes. The money does not have to be paid until after the weekend.
