The International Services programme oversees the many Dovetail Exchanges on offer at Kristin School. Ranging from three to six week exchanges, the Dovetail programme provides an avenue for Kristin students to experience school-life in another culture, often in a second language.
What began 20 years ago as a straightforward system of sister-school-type liaisons, has become a strategic initiative to develop partnerships with schools overseas for the reciprocal exchange of students, staff and resources. Crucially this exposure helps domestic students to develop their appreciation of the challenges involved in adapting to new cultures, which in turn strengthens their resolve to welcome their international counterparts. In short, it is one of the many paths available at Kristin for students to build up the requisite skills for nurturing future global relationships.
Kunei Girls High School in Osaka, Japan, and Carey Baptist Grammar, Melbourne, were Kristin's first partner schools from 1989 and 1999 respectively. Further schools in Japan and Australia, and in Spain, Germany, France, China and Argentina have been steadily added to the stable of Dovetail Exchanges. Our newest exchange is with St George's North, sister school of our partner school St George's Quilmes, both in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The current total of 10 active partnerships for exchange (two on a biennial basis) sees Kristin welcome and farewell close to 40 students each year.
