Rugby

Rugby is a great team game where you can improve your fitness, learn some new skills and be involved with friends and family. During the summer months, players are encouraged to be involved in Touch to improve their Rugby skills.

Students in Year 3-6 play Rippa Rugby (Year 3-6) or Tackle Rugby (Year 5-6). In Year 7-8, a team will be chosen to play in the Intermediate Schools Field Days and in the St Peter's Winter Sports Exchange. For Year 9-13 students, we field teams in the North Harbour Secondary Schools Competition.

Season/Competition (Year 9-13)

All games are played on Saturdays throughout Term 2 and extending into Week 6 of Term 3. Students are required to be available to play on the first weekend of the July holidays. Games are played around the wider North Shore area, from Warkworth to Northcote, with some grades playing in an Auckland wide competition. Typically there are two practices a week in addition to a Saturday morning game.

We aim to keep this document as up to date as possible, however if you're looking for dates that are not listed here, or for the full competition draw, visit the North Harbour Rugby website.

There are a number of grades depending on the weight of players.

  • 1st XV (Open Weight and U19 years old)
  • 4th Grade - U19-U70kg
  • 6th Grade - U16-U60kg
  • 7th Grade - U15-U52kg

Uniform

Jerseys and shorts will be provided but socks need to be purchased from the Retail Shop. Boots and mouth-guard (compulsory) are also required. The School tracksuit is compulsory for all students in School sports teams. Students are expected to arrive at all sporting events in their tracksuit.

Cost

Fees for Year 7-8 are approximately $20, Seniors (Year 9-13) are approximately $250. Fees for other teams are dependent on coaching costs, but will be between $150 and $250. Please note additional team gear such as jackets and bags will be an extra cost.

Junior Rugby (Year 3-6)

Year 3 and 4 students play Rippa Rugby while Year 5 and 6 can choose to play either Rippa or Tackle Rugby. Those selected play in the Rippa/ Rugby competitions, which are held over three tournaments in Term 2 and Term 3. This differs from Saturday Club Rugby as all of the above tournaments are held during school time mid-week, meaning a player can play for Kristin as well as their own club. Students may have the opportunity to also play on the Northern Bays Cluster Winter Sports Day held at Kristin each year in Term 3.

Uniform

For Rippa Rugby tournaments, players wear their PE uniform with trainers. The tackle team are provided with a jersey and can play in their PE shorts. Tackle is played bare foot.

Cost

The cost for participation in Kristin Rippa and Tackle is approximately $50, depending on external coaching requirements and transport.
