Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC)
EOTC is a key feature of a Kristin education. Taking students outside of the comfort of their classroom encourages them to embrace situations and challenges to promote personal growth and development, as well as team building and leadership opportunities.
Early in Term 1, all Senior School students take part in Camp Week. The myriad of situations and challenges faced during this experience help students to gain new knowledge and understanding, skills, abilities and attitudes, while building on those they already have. Key outcomes from this week include:
- To provide students with opportunities for enjoyment, adventure and challenge, both close to home and far away.
- To develop students' skills so they can move with confidence and safety in urban, rural and wilderness settings.
- To help students develop respect for themselves and others by providing them with opportunities for personal and social development.
- To develop independence and interdependence, and to provide opportunities to strengthen links between students and staff.
Excursions and Field Trips
Excursions and field trips are an important part of the students' learning across all subject categories. Visiting relevant places of interest brings learning to life and allows students to make significant connections to their school-based studies. This applied learning takes students in directions that expand understanding and encourage deeper and more meaningful exploration.
A range of reciprocal international exchange opportunities exists for Kristin students through the Dovetail Exchange programme. Ranging from three to six week exchanges, the Dovetail programme provides an avenue for Kristin students to experience school-life in another culture, often in a second language.
Beyond the Curriculum
There are numerous opportunities throughout Kristin for students to test their skills and learning outside of the classroom or an assessment-based environment. The Senior School offers many opportunities through sporting and cultural activities, as well as a myriad of leadership positions for students to engage with a subject, skill, hobby or cause for which they are passionate, to connect with the wider school community and to apply the academic and social skills learnt in the classroom to their daily lives and activities.
