Sports Awards Dinner
The annual sports awards dinner for year 7 - 13 students was held at the Spencer on Byron Thursday 24 October. The guest speaker was the Paralympian and 3-time gold medalist Cameron Leslie. His address was a highlight and was warmly received. Cameron was indeed an inspiration, and he shared his gold medal amongst all from the Rio Olympics. All in attendance were able to get a first-hand look. Camerons key message was “plan and be prepared” and “never hold back from chasing your dreams”.
Congratulations to year 12 student Lucia Doak who claimed the overall sportsperson of the year award the “Firth Cup”. Lucia has had an outstanding year in water polo with Kristin, North Harbour and NZ. She has represented Kristin for the last three years and has been a key player at representative level for North Harbour teams. Lucia was part of the NZ U20 team at the world youth championships and has been selected in the NZ schools team to compete against Australia in December.
As always, it was great to have our middle school students in attendance. Congratulations to Lily Rushworth, Cooper Clague, Mikayla Smyth and Finn Burridge for winning the middle school sportsperson of the year awards.
