For me, the first day here in Washington D.C. was kicked off with an early morning run with some fellow programmer participants to the Lincoln Memorial. It was an awesome way to see the city, and it has really got me excited for this part of the trip!
After the run and a quick shower, we grabbed breakfast-to-go and headed of the World Learning International Headquarters. While there we went through an orientation process regarding our stay in DC, and underwent a Civil Society and Social Change Workshop. Here we learnt about the interplay between Businesses, a Civil Society and the Government. Once the workshop had concluded we headed off to the Walker Jones Farm, a small urban farm that provides urban middle school children a chance to learn about crops and healthy food. We volunteered there, helping with managing the crops, and we were also fortunate enough to help out with a lesson for middle schoolers.
Once we had finished the lesson, we went and explored Chinatown before getting dinner and heading home for team building activities.
