Tennis AKSS Champion

On Tuesday 2 April 4 students attended the AKSS Tennis Championships. This is a knockout tournament run over 3 days for all Secondary Schools throughout Auckland.

Ella O’Malley and Lilian Zhang headed to Albany Tennis Centre for their first round of matches.

Lilian had a great start to the tournament winning 9-1 against Westlake Girls. Lilian then came up against the number 1 seed from Macleans College. She had a tough match and lost 9-1.

Ella’s first-round match was against Rangitoto College and she won 9-0. She then had to face the number 1 seed in the second round. Saint Kentigern’s took the win 9-2.

Finn and Robbie headed to Scarbro Tennis Centre and started their 1st round matches.

Robbie had a convincing win over Mt Albert 9-6. He was then on the court against the number 2 seed from Westlake Boys and lost 9-1.

Finn was the number 1 seed in the Junior Boys Grade. He started off strong and continued this throughout the tournament, beating Waiuku in the 1st round 9-0. In the quarterfinals, Finn beat Sacred Heart 6-3, 6-1 and continued the winning streak in the semi-finals against Saint Kentigern’s 6-0, 6-1. He was up against another Saint Kentigern’s player in the finals. After a nail-biting 2 set win, Finn took out the AKSS Junior Boys Tennis Championships for 2019 with a convincing win 6-3,6-3.

Finn and Robbie competed in the Junior Boys Doubles together and won the first round against Kings 6-0, 6-1. They then faced Sacred Heart in the middle of a downpour forcing them to move indoors. They defeated Sacred Heart 6-1, 6-0 placing them in the finals against Westlake Boys. Finn and Robbie had a big battle in the 1st set losing 7-5. Unfortunately, they lost the 2nd set 6-4. After an action packed 3 days of Tennis the boys walked away with a well-deserved silver medal.

These results are a great achievement for the Kristin Tennis player and we hope to continue the winning streak this weekend with both our premier teams playing off for 3rd place in the North Harbour A2 competitions at Kristin School 8.15am. They would love as much support as possible.
