First XI Boys Football Get First Win
It took until round 5 but the 1st XI Boys Football Team got a deserved first win of the season. With a touch more luck it may have come in earlier rounds but it was nice to get the monkey off the back. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against monkeys or any primates for that matter but I just think they should keep their distance.
The win was achieved in near gale force winds against an Orewa side 3rd in the table. Hamish Thornton grabbed the first goal early in the first half in the 2-0 victory, overlapping from right back, riding a couple of challenges before finishing calmly from close range.
He was instrumental in the second goal too, again over lapping from right back, lashing a shot across the face of the Orewa goal that their keeper could only parry down to Aaron Li who thumped it into the roof of the net. Game over with little time left in the second half although truth be told Orewa never really threatened so even before the second goal there was a feeling that the win was coming notwithstanding the trying conditions the game was played in.
Confidence can be a wonderful thing so the hope is that now we can convert more closely fought games into victories with the belief that should flow from this result
