The Cricket season began on Saturday despite the inclement Auckland weather. Kristin Colts and 1st XI teams both played Orewa here at Kristin and managed to complete both matches.
The Colts' had a comprehensive win, batting first they scored an impressive 216/5 from 40 overs. Christian Roadley and Lachlan Wallace opened the batting and combined for 130 runs for the first wicket, scoring 63 and 53 respectively. Nic Wallace batted first drop and chipped in with a handy 26. In reply, Orewa was bowled out for 94 although they hung around for 34.2 overs. It was a real team effort with the wickets shared amongst 7 bowlers with Noah Roadley finishing the innings off by taking his second and third wicket with consecutive balls to finish with figures of 3/7 from 4.2 overs.
In a slightly reduced overs match, our 1st XI scored 192/4 from 42 overs with Luke Watson scoring a patient and well compiled century in difficult batting conditions before running himself out for 101. He was well supported by Year 10 newcomer Alex Godward who was unbeaten on 33. Erratic Kristin bowling saw Orewa off to a flying start with their opening batsman scoring 92 from 58 balls. They reached the total with the loss of three wickets.
