Library Information Centre
The Library Information Centre (LIC) is the award winning building at the very heart of the Kristin campus. Reading and research have high profiles at Kristin through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the IB Diploma and NCEA. This is reflected in the pride that the community of staff and students have in the Library Information Centre.
The Place
In one wing is the LIC dedicated to the information and reading needs of the PYP in the Junior School and in another wing are the facilities to support the Middle School and Senior School including a reading room, a computer area and other bookable classroom areas as well as comfortable areas with furniture suitable for relaxing and reading or studying.
The Collection
In both libraries the extensive collection reflects the recreational and curriculum needs of all programmes taught at the school. The collection currently stands at over 40,000 items including a wide selection of picture books, novels, non fiction books, over 100 magazine subscriptions, audio books as well as DVDs relevant to various curriculum areas. Because reading has a high profile the collection in both libraries includes a comprehensive fiction section of books by traditional as well as modern, well known authors who tell wonderful stories to excite and inspire the imagination for all ages of borrowers. Like the rest of the school the LIC is wireless so that students and staff can access digital information on their laptops or via the computers throughout the library.
The Students
All classes in the Junior School are scheduled into the library as an integral part of their programme. Very popular sessions of activities attracting many students are run by library staff and student librarians at lunchtimes. This library is open at 8.30am and closes at 3.30pm.
Middle School classes use the library extensively. English classes foster the reading habit with a regular bookings to the Reading Room. Because inquiry underpins the Middle Years Programme (MYP) other curriculum areas also use the library facilities on a regular basis. Research is integral to NCEA and IB Diploma courses hence Senior School students make good use all facilities in the LIC. Librarians liaise with Curriculum Managers and Heads of Faculty to providethe best access for students to resources for their courses.
Trained Student Librarians and the Year 10 Library Events team enjoy their valued role in creating an efficent, friendly, student centred-environment.
The LIC opens at 8.00am and closes 5.00pm each school day.

The LIC is staffed by fully qualified personnel with extensive experience in teaching and librarianship.
