Chaplaincy
Kristin is a non denominational school in the Christian tradition. We provide an environment in which students can excel academically, creatively, and in the sporting area. We also believe in an education which incorporates guidelines for life and we pride ourselves in creating good citizens - whanaungatanga - students with values.
The Kristin Chaplaincy play an important part in this values based education. Comprising of a Chaplain, two Assistant Chaplains, and a Gap Year Student, the team work alongside other disciplines within the school to provide a balance between the academic, sporting, social and spiritual facets of education.
Core to the Chaplaincy is presence. Committed to all students, no matter what background or beliefs, the Chaplaincy can offer time, and a different perspective on how to view things.
Activities run by the Chaplaincy take into account that students, staff and families will be in different places when it comes to spirituality. They endeavour to offer a contemporary model that the current youth culture will accept - the Chaplaincy team's s role is to mentor students by being positive role models that young people can trust, and to understand youth trends in art, music and technology and apply these trends creatively in Chapel Services in the search for spirituality. Whilst young people are wary of anything institutional, they are often interested in exploring issues of spirituality, as long as it is done creatively, is life-applicable, is relational and is respectful of another's position and beliefs.
Ultimately, Kristin aims to send our students out into the world with moral intelligence, as well as cognitive and technical abilities. Christian values permeate sensitively throughout our school and our Chaplaincy Team is present to help young people find that inner compass to help them face life's challenges with confidence.
