Curriculum
Senior schooling at Kristin is viewed as being one three-year course rather than three one-year courses. Although new options are available each year, most have prerequisites and build on prior knowledge. To ensure that Seniors are well-equipped to take the courses they wish, we invest heavily in course counselling along with regular review and advice. Central to this are the Deans at each year level, the Assistant Principal responsible for IB, the Deputy Principal responsible for NCEA, and the Director of Career Services.
Advice and guidelines to assist families of Senior students with course selection for the following year is offered at a Senior School Options evening in July. Details of the format of this evening is mailed to families at the end of Term 2. Parent Teacher Interviews early in Term 3 also provide the opportunity to discuss the next year's courses, particularly with subject teachers. In addition, all Seniors students for the following year are interviewed individually during Term 3 to discuss their progress to date and future pathways. Further options counselling takes place by appointment later in the year.
The curriculum must be regarded as all activities that the school offers.
