Music at Kristin
  Music Curriculum

Students in Years 7 and 8 receive an intensive 12 week programme covering a variety of practical tasks which give them performance, composition and listening skills.  Students use keyboards, guitars, percussion and their own instruments in class.  In Year 9, students can choose to take a half year option where the practical bias is still evident, together with the start of a more formal approach to the techniques of music.  Students progress to a full year option in Year 10 which forms the necessary preparation for NCEA and the International Baccalaureate.

  Extra-curricular Music

Kristin has many choral and instrumental performance groups, at levels to suit both students with limited experience, and those at an advanced level.

Individual music lessons are available on the following instruments:  Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Recorder, Saxophone,  Bassoon, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Piano, Voice.  Lessons are usually half an hour long and take place weekly at a fixed time.  Because the school works on a seven day academic timetable, students do not miss part of the same lesson each week.
