MS Students Studying

Kristin continues to be one of New Zealand's leading schools in innovatively deploying digital technologies, and provides unique and exciting digital learning programmes for all of our students.

To support our students through these programmes, ICTS provides students with digital devices such as laptops, a comprehensive software and hardware support programme designed to achieve 100% laptop availability and a friendly support team who are responsible for solving your child's ICT problems.

The following is an overview of our major programmes:

Kindergarten – Year 5

Starting in Kindergarten, students start developing an interest in digital technology through their PYP (Primary Years Programme). Students at all year levels have access to dedicated laptop pods, ubiquitous wireless networking, unconstrained Internet access and a mature digital citizenship and cyber-safety programme tailored specifically for Junior students.

Year 6

Starting from Term 1 2012 our Digital Learning Programme will be extended to include Year 6's (final year of Junior School) to enhance the Junior School learning programme. This innovative adoption of technologies at Year 6 level will lead the way for staff and students to fully engage in a digital future. Each student is provided with a laptop with support provided throughout the year to assist students to gain basic computer literacy. Our Year 6 programme provides a digital pathway to the Middle School. At Kristin, we see it as our job and responsibility to prepare our students for success in the future, a future where without a doubt, will be based on digital technologies yet to be realised.

Year 7 to Year 10

The on-going Middle School Programme requires laptops to be used across all subject areas. In Years 7 to 8, Kristin School runs Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) intensive programmes. During these years, the use of technology is an integrated part of the curriculum. Digital learning materials, net research and online communication and collaboration are all used to increase student engagement and assist in creating individualised learning experiences foKristin Lenovo x220 ThinkPadr our students. The huge array of digital materials tailored to the use of laptops and Interactive/Smartboards creates unprecedented learning opportunities.

Students are exposed to a wide variety of technologies ranging from their laptop computers, interactive whiteboards, audio/visual equipment etc.
The students are taught to access the best tools for learning, based on personal experience, interests and skills.

Some of the software students have access to include:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe Master Collection Suite
  • Specific subject software i.e. ‘Garage Band' for Music, ‘Silicon Coach' for Physical Education
  • Movie-making and multimedia tools

Year 9 to Year 10

At Year 9, students are given the option to chose between a Lenovo x220 Windows 7 or an Apple MacBook Air 11-inch enabling a multi-platform environment.

On selection, students enter a lease-to-own programme, whereby students will own their laptop at the end of Year 10. Laptops can continue to be used in the Senior School.

Year 11 to Year 13

To address the learning needs of our Senior students, our programme transitions from the Middle School programme to a personalised and self-managed environment. Students select and bring their own digital devices and connect to our secure high-speed wireless network. This network supports an array of devices within a safe and flexible advanced environment which hums along with over 600 BYODs (Bring Your Own Devices).

Senior students have access to local and cloud-based learning and research resources using their choice of one or more devices. On this network students use smartphones, tablets, netbooks and laptops. Uniquely, all device types are seemlessly supported including Android, Blackberry, Apple iOS and mainstream Windows and Apple operating systems.

A support programme for Senior students exists to connect students and is designed to transition students to a self-sufficient tertiary environment.
