Senior School Scholarships

PremiumFor 38 years Kristin School has been redefining independent schooling on Auckland's North Shore. Now, thanks to a new package of financial assistance offered by the Kristin Foundation and two of the school's key business partners, Premium Real Estate Group and Westpac Bank.

Providing a dual qualification pathway, Kristin offers both the National Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Programme throughout all year levels. Senior School students can choose between completing their NCEA levels in Years 12 and 13, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Kristin students are regularly accepted by Cambridge, Oxford and Ivy League Universities, as well as other leading universities and institutions in New Zealand and Australia.

Applications for the Scholarship Programme close at 2pm on Thursday 7 June 2012.  Interviews will take place the following week and places will be confirmed by late June 2012.

  Aspire Scholarships

Kristin School supports the government initiative called Aspire Scholarships. An Aspire Scholarship provides assistance for a low income family towards the costs of Private or Independent Secondary schooling. It will contribute up to $15,000 per year towards the fees of a Private or Independent school for the duration of a student's attendance at this school. It will also include a yearly allowance of up to $1,500 to cover course related costs.

A student is eligible for a 2013 Aspire Scholarship if:

  • they will be in Year 9 in 2013
  • their primary caregiver(s) have a joint annual gross income of $56,000 or less (not including Working for Families tax credits)
  • their primary caregiver(s) have a combined net worth of $200,000 or less (not including household items)
  • they, or their primary caregiver(s), are not beneficiaries of any trusts (exceptions will be made on a case by case basis)
  • they are a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of New Zealand
  • an application is received in hard copy at the Ministry of Education National Office by 5pm on Friday 11 May 2012.

  Tertiary Scholarships

Other than fees, scholarships and awards at Kristin cover the full range of academic, extra-curricular and school-leaver scholarships for tertiary study. Some are available exclusively to Kristin students; others are available through partnerships for selected New Zealand schools including Kristin and many others are generally contestable.

A particularly useful source of scholarship information is BreakOut which is New Zealand's primary source of funding information for students, researchers, sports people, artists and those wanting professional development. BreakOut holds details of over 2200 funding schemes and is a searchable database. It will give you the best matches of scholarships, awards and grants you are eligible for in terms of criteria, level of study and discipline along with closing dates, application requirements and contact details. Access is through the Parent Portal or on enquiry through Career Development Services.
