Kristin believe that a parent's investment in an Independent School goes beyond academic advantage; their children should experience more and enjoy greater opportunities in every aspect of their growth.
One of the latest innovations at our school is a revolution in the food we offer to students. nutriSmart – food for a smart generation - is a natural progression in our commitment to holistic education and the total well-being of our students.
The stereotypical school tuckshop, churning out stodgy, unappetising food simply doesn't fit in today's increasingly health-conscious world. However, neither do we wish to become the food police, forcing our students to eat what we think is good for them.
As a result we have developed a menu of nutritious and tasty food choices to suit the whole school family. To assist the process we sought advice from Auckland Regional Public Health Service dieticians and acclaimed food critic, Peta Mathias.
The menu now caters for a wide range of tastes with wraps, pasta, salad, quiche and frittata, pizza, sushi, fruit salad, brownies, muffins and biscotti - even Jester’s Pies (although only the varieties that fall within approved nutritional guidelines are stocked).
As part of the curriculum students learn about healthy eating so the school felt it was important to reinforce that through the food and beverages it provides. For example no fizzy drinks are available, instead bottled water, juice and small portions of reduced-fat flavoured milk are offered and apples are free with every lunch.
The school will monitor food preferences closely so we can ensure that students receive a balanced variety of enjoyable foods. Should an item appear to be unpopular with students it will be removed from the menu and a substitute item introduced.
nutriSmart’s focus on service provides online nutritional information about products sold in the school; web-based pre-ordering, and swipe-card purchase facilities for students are linked to a pre-paid accounting system which provides better security and gives parents information on what their children are buying and how much.
For nutritional information on some of our products, see page 2 of this section.
Pavilion Café
In the process of improving the school's food choices, the Pavilion Café was also refurbished. The Pavilion Café is specifically for Senior students, staff and visitors to the school. It offers a café environment with over-the-counter service and barista coffee with the option to dine outside on a balcony overlooking the sports grounds.
We are aware that it is important to recognise that Senior students need privileges that acknowledge their maturity. As many of them are used to the café scene, we've used it as recognition of their status at school. The Café gives them a separate area to meet with friends and enjoy a coffee as young adults.
A barista coffee and a muffin for parents, while watching student sport on the weekends, is also a popular option.
The Pavilion Café is open from 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday for senior students, staff and parents. Saturday opening is dependent on sports and cultural activities.
Express Café
Downstairs from the Pavilion Café is the Express Café for the Middle School. Here Middle School students can pre-order their lunches and get healthy snacks at interval and for about 20 minutes over lunchtime.
Pre-order System
For the Junior School we have a pre-order system where lunches are delivered to your child's classroom. Middle School can also use this pre-order system. A box is placed in the Junior and Middle School offices and cleared for processing at 9am each day.
Every endeavour will be made to accommodate all orders. If for some reason we are unable to provide the student’s choice a substitution will be made with another item as close as possible to their selection.

Method of Payment
We recommend parents take advantage of our pre-payment service whereby a minimum of $50 can be charged to a special pre-pay account and every time your child orders lunch the amount will be deducted from the balance. This way you will avoid searching for cash to place in an envelope or money getting lost. Cash and credit card purchases are also available.
Cancellations
To cancel a lunch order and receive a credit, parents should contact the school and ask for the Nutrition Services Manager by 9am. A credit will be carried forward to the next order. Once the order has been processed by the supplier we are not in a position to offer a refund.
