Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is an internationally-recognised development program for young people aged 14 to 25. It introduces you to a range of opportunities so that you can gain new skills, have new experiences and make a difference to your community and your world.

Duke of Edinburgh is about challenge, adventure and achievement – it's a great way to; try new things, hang out with friends, get active and improve your fitness, help out the community, gain confidence, build on your life skills, make a difference, challenge yourself and be recognised.

Duke of Edinburgh consists of Bronze, Silver and Gold Award levels. For each Award level, participants need to complete the following sections:

  • Service - Developing a sense of community service and responsibility to others.
  • Adventurous Journey  - Encouraging a spirit of adventure and discovery.
  • Skills - To develop personal interests and practical skills.
  • Physical Recreation  - Encouraging participation in physical recreation and improve performance.
  • Residential Project (Gold Award only) - Broadening experience through involvement with others in a residential setting.

When students have completed the four sections at an Award level (five for Gold) their achievements are recognised with a certificate and an Award badge. Bronze and Silver Award holders can then move onto the next level of the Award.

Almost five million young people from more than 120 countries have taken up the Dukes challenge. Kristin has 90 new bronze students this year.
