Scholarships 2018

A range of scholarships is available for new students entering into Years 5, 7, 9 and 11 at Kristin. Awards range from 30% of tuition fees for Academic and General Excellence Scholarships to 50% for Foundation Scholarships.

Scholarship applications for 2018 entry open on Tuesday 28 February 2017 and close at 2pm on Tuesday 28 March 2017. No late applications will be accepted.  (Please see Guidelines at the end of this page.)

Academic Excellence Scholarships

Academic Excellence Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding applicants demonstrating exceptional academic ability. These scholarships are awarded based on the results of previous school reports, performance in the entrance examination and an interview:

Year 5 (up to 4 years)
Year 7 (up to 4 years)
Year 9 (up to 5 years)
Year 11 (up to 3 years)

General Excellence Scholarships

General Excellence Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding applicants demonstrating all round academic ability, excellence in a chosen cocurricular activity or interest, and exceptional leadership and/or service. These scholarships are awarded using information provided in previous school reports, performance in the entrance examination, evidence of excellence in cocurricular activities, interests, leadership and/or service, and an interview:

Year 5 (up to 4 years)
Year 7 (up to 4 years)
Year 9 (up to 5 years)
Year 11 (up to 3 years)

Foundation Scholarships

Kristin's Foundation Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding applicants demonstrating all round ability but whose family, for financial reasons, would be otherwise unable to meet the costs of attending Kristin. Financial need is a pre-requisite for these scholarships and the Statement of Financial Position must be completed with all applications. Evidence of financial standing/hardship/position is required. These scholarships will be awarded using information provided in previous school reports, performance in the entrance examination, evidence of excellence in cocurricular activities or interests, and an interview:

Year 5 (up to 4 years)
Year 7 (up to 4 years)
Year 9 (up to 5 years)
Year 11 (up to 3 years)

Academic Excellence, General Excellence and Foundation Scholarship Guidelines

  • Scholarships are only open to NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents. Applications open on Tuesday 28 February 2017 and close at 2pm on Tuesday 28 March 2017. No late applications will be accepted.
  • Applications must also be accompanied by copies of recent school reports, results and certificates. A copy of your child's NZ Birth Certificate or current passport showing NZ Permanent Residency must be sent with the scholarship application.
  • The Statement of Financial Position and supporting documents as requested must accompany all Foundation Scholarship applications.
  • All applicants must be available to sit our scholarship examination at Kristin at 9.30am on Tuesday 11 April 2017.
  • Following the scholarship examination, applicants will be shortlisted and invited to attend an interview to be held during the week commencing 15 May 2017.
  • All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their scholarship application by Thursday 25 May 2017 with acceptance of scholarships offered due by Friday 9 June 2017.
  • Year 5 and 7 scholarship holders do not have guaranteed continuance beyond their initial tenure of four years. Students on scholarship are eligible, however, to re-apply for a continuation of their scholarship.
  • Scholarship holders will be expected to participate in the wider life of our school including sports, arts and service, and to represent Kristin at events and competitions.
  • In exceptional circumstances the student's enrolment may be publicised alongside notable achievements when agreed upon by all parties.
  • Scholarships are reviewed by the relevant School Principal mid-year and the Executive Principal at the end of each year with cancellation of a scholarship possible if the agreed goals for the year have not been met.
  • All scholarships are awarded on the basis on anonymity and in agreed confidence with parents. A breach of confidence may jeopardise the student's ongoing access to the scholarship.
  • Scholarship applications incur the A$115.00 non-refundable application fee.  Payment is made at the time of your on-line registration for the scholarship examination, details of which will be sent to you by the Registrar upon receipt of a completed application.

Aspire Scholarships

Government scholarships are available for students from low-income families who wish to attend an independent secondary school. Applications for an Aspire Scholarship should be directed to the Ministry of Education.   Aspire Scholarship applications for entry to Year 9, 2018,must be submitted to the Ministry of Education by 5pm on Friday 19 May, 2017.  For more details, visit the Ministry of Education website.
