 Even though Kristin is a relatively young school, founded in 1972, it is thanks to an enlightened archival policy that we have a superb record of Kristin's progress through the years.
Our School Archivist has the full time role of carefully and securely recording and storing Kristin's growing history. Our collection includes documents, photographs, audio and video, memorabilia and uniforms. The Archivist provides material for displays at school functions and reunions, historical information for many of the school's departments as well as material for class projects.
From the early years, there are 8mm home movies: much of this has been transferred to videotape in our editing suite. A collection of audiotapes also forms the basis of our unique School Oral History Project – a project possible, in contrast to older, established schools, because we can still contact people who were involved in our founding.
Archival material arrives constantly, from pupil files or routine notices, to sports gear for an entire sports team. It all has to be sorted, categorised and stored in its correct place. All electronic items are stored on a computer database. Everything is secure and physical items are held in acid-free waxed boxes. Important documents are copied onto slow-decay, acid-free paper.
The Archivist is often behind a digital camera or video camera at school events or, just as important, recording everyday activities that we tend to take for granted. There are also physical changes to record, such as work on the campus grounds and new buildings.
Despite our diligent collecting we still have many gaps. If you have anything suitable from Kristin School's first 35 years - photographs, video, film, uniform items, sportswear, Kristin crested items, memorabilia or something you would like to donate to Kristin's permanent collection, please contact the School Archivist.
