Auckland Maritime Museum Trip
Last week the Year 9 students went to the Maritime Museum on the waterfront in the city. This was for our Humanities unit about Immigration, focusing on immigrants to New Zealand.
We had a great day; one highlight was going on a boat trip around the harbour on the Ted Ashby which is an old-fashioned sailing boat. Another highlight was doing a sailing simulation where we competed against each other as grinders and navigators in a mock race around Auckland Harbour! We also watched a great video about the first migrants who came to New Zealand, and what the traveling experience was like for them.
After that, we learned about some personal stories from immigrants to New Zealand throughout time.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot of valuable information about the way our country is a ‘melting pot’ of many cultures.
