Transport and Parking

With more than 1,600 students and 200 staff, the roads in and around Kristin can get very busy at times. Peak times are 8am-8.30am and 3pm-3.40pm.

At all times it is important for drivers to live Kristin's values of respect for ourselves and others.

As a community we can work together to ensure traffic runs as smoothly as possible and everyone is kept safe. Kristin has worked closely with transportation planning experts to design the roads and pathways around the campus and with this in mind there are some rules that apply to driving and parking around Kristin.

Speed

The speed limit on Kristin roads is 20 kph. It is not a target and it has no exceptions.

Parking

The following parking areas are available around the school:

Area Spaces Available
Bass Road

80

Buses park here and take about 20 spaces

Drop off laybys - Junior School 11
Junior School car park 36 + 1 disabled
Kindy only 8
Chapel - visitors 16
Staff car park - main admin building 23 + 1 disabled - all allocated so if you are not allocated a park you should not drive through this area. It is not a dropoff area.
Gravel car park 40-50
Student car park (Senior School) 81 - all allocated
Middle School 68
Auditorium - staff only 91

Visitor and parent parking is available outside of the Chapel and on the gravel area. Staff should not park in the Chapel parks.

Buses

With more than 900 students utilising bus services each day, buses are given priority at Kristin.

Buses depart at 3.30pm and at times cars in the Junior School area will be stopped from exiting at the pedestrian crossing if the driveway is full. This allows the driveway to clear to gives buses a straight run. Vehicles are also prevented from exiting the gravel car park once buses are running.

Roundabouts

The same rules apply to Kristin roundabouts as apply on the open road.

Before entering a roundabout, ensure you can exit from it where you need to on it. This might mean you need to wait before entering a roundabout, but it will ensure roundabouts are not blocked.

A roundabout is not a carpark- the carparks at Kristin are notified in the section above. Parking on a roundabout – or the side of a roundabout – is dangerous and we do not want to put students, staff, parents or visitors to Kristin in danger.

Drop-Off Zones

There are designated drop off zones at Kristin. They are not parking zones, which means cars should not be left in these zones unattended.

There is a drop-off zone at the Junior school and for the Middle and Senior School. Parking in these zones, or double-parking in these zones, is unacceptable.

Bass Road Gates

Due to resource consent restrictions, these gates are not able to be opened until 4 p.m. each day.
Staff Guidance.

During peak times, staff will give guidance to traffic to assist with a smooth flow of vehicles. Please take guidance from these staff as they are trying to make your driving experience at Kristin more pleasant.

Things we've noticed

There are some behaviours that have been noticed that we don't expect to see at Kristin.

  • Creative Parking – As noted, roundabout verges are not a carpark, nor are small gaps in the staff carpark that have had yellow lines put on them for a reason. A vacant allocated carpark is not a "lucky find" – unless of course it is allocated to you.
  • Cones are not removable items. They are there for a reason and only authorised staff should move cones.
  • Roads are not footpaths. For your safety and the safety of others, please use the footpaths to walk around the school, including the main driveway and crossing the bus bay.
  • Driving above recommended speed limit.

Thanks for your assistance in managing these transport and parking requirements. With your assistance we will all get to where we need to safely and more quickly.
