Year 2 Corbans Estate Art Centre Trip

This year for our Unit of Inquiry ‘Art Talks’ our year 2 students visited the Corbans Estate Art Centre in Henderson. Embracing our central idea ‘Through the arts people express themselves in a variety of ways’, our children were able to explore different forms of art and create their own artwork piece.

The students were guided through making a pastel drawing based on the work of New Zealand artist and author Warren Pohatu. The art teacher showed the children slowly how to design and orchestrate their piece step by step. Our year two students, teachers and our parent helpers were all engaged and excited by the activity.

We were fortunate to be able to meet onsite sculptor David McCracken who showed us some of his finished pieces and also demonstrated how he makes some of his sculptures. It was great to see his work scattered around the Corbans Estate grounds.

This was a very hands on and interesting excursion with many children inspired by the artists and teachers we met.

‘I enjoyed the tour around the grounds and looking at the old buildings’ - Rebecca
‘The art gallery was very interesting and it was really fun- Iris
‘I liked making the pastel artwork, mine was a dragon’ - Quenna
