A Morning Chorus For Kristin Students

Members of Kristin School's choirs have been invited to take part in a worldwide charity event on 7 December at the Westhaven Marina.

Choirs from 196 countries will combine simultaneously to sing All You Need Is Love, live, in a single global choir to be broadcast on the world-wide web.

As this event is being master-minded from the other side of the world, the New Zealand participants will have to gather at 1.00am on the Tuesday morning in order to synchronize with the rest of the world. The setting of the Westhaven Marina and Auckland city skyline will provide an iconic New Zealand backdrop.

The event (official name – Starbucks Project (RED) Love Project) will re-enact the very first live international television broadcast in 1967 where the Beatles sang All You Need Is Love. At the time, this was not only an historic technological breakthrough, but the moment when the world ushered in a new era of human connectivity, awareness and celebration.

This time around, the event will support The Global Fund in its fight against AIDS in Africa and organisers expect to raise over 3 million dollars towards the cause.

Live feeds from the event will be streamed to a central location where all 196 countries will be able to be viewed simultaneously. A web experience has been constructed to broadcast the live feed to any personal computer.

Head of the Arts and Technology Faculty at Kristin School, Nick Richardson, has apologised in advance to the School Principal for the slightly blurry-eyed students he expects to see at school the next day. “However, despite the early start, we are the only New Zealand choir taking part so it will be worth it” he says.

Approximately 15 Kristin students will perform, most of them Seniors from their award-winning choir Euphony. A selection of boys and a few Middle School students will also be involved.

Following the event, award-winning Director, Chris Palmer, will create a promotional film using footage from the worldwide performance.
