National Winners Kristin Announced in Monetary Policy Challenge
The Reserve Bank announced on Thursday 26 August that Kristin School from Auckland is the national winner of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand 2010 Monetary Policy Challenge (MPC). Tauranga Boys’ College was placed second and Scots College from Wellington came third.
The national final took place at the Reserve Bank in Wellington and was hotly contested. The judges were Assistant Governor John McDermott and two economists from the Bank.

Prefects Open Garden to Welcome Refugees
Kristin School Prefects held the official handover of their Prefect Project 2010 on the morning of Sunday 8 August at the New Zealand Refugee Resettlement Centre (MRRC) in Mangere.
Invited guests, including Andrew Lockhart National Manager of Refugee Services attended the event along with representatives from AUT, the Red Cross, Refugees as Survivors, INZ staff and current residents of the centre. The centre also arranged for their regional Kaumatua (Tainui) to bless both the garden and a Kauri tree which had been planted on World Refugee Day.

Elise Lights the Youth Olympic Flame
Year 11 student Elise Beavis is a 16 year-old sailor who will be competing at the Youth Olympics in Singapore in August. Recently, Elise became one of only three New Zealanders to be part of the very special Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame in New Zealand.
This was a special event as the International Olympic Committee do not intend to have the torch travel around the world for future Youth Olympics so this was literally a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Kristin Win VEX Robotics World Championships
The VEX World Robotics Championships were held in Dallas, Texas last weekend and the Kristin School team were awarded Tournament Champions of the High School competition.
A total of 14 New Zealand teams from 11 Senior schools attended the event. It was the first time that Kristin had attended the World Championships. Various 'Scrimmages' take place in the spring and over the summer, culminating in the Nationals which were in March at the Telstra Clear Pacific Stadium.

Once again Kristin students have demonstrated levels of achievement that put them at the leading edge both nationally and internationally when the Senior School International Baccalaureate (IB) and National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) results were received in the mail recently. A Morning Chorus For Kristin Students
Members of Kristin School's choirs have been invited to take part in a worldwide charity event on 7 December at the Westhaven Marina.
Choirs from 196 countries will combine simultaneously to sing All You Need Is Love, live, in a single global choir to be broadcast on the world-wide web.

Kristin Win New Zealand's Next Top Engineering Scientist
A problem-solving team event for Secondary students, organised by the Department of Engineering Science at The University of Auckland has been won by Kristin School.
This new competition was held on Saturday 19 September, with students working from 8am through to 5pm to produce a report that answered the competition question. A total of 363 contestants took part, with 98 teams entered from schools all over New Zealand.

Five of our students have recently returned from the USA as World Champions in the field of Future Problem Solving (FPS) after winning with their Dramatic Presentation against schools from all over the world.

Junior School teacher Miss Tasha Gover has been awarded the 2009 Spacific Yearbooks Ltd ISNZ Excellence in Teaching Award for Exceptional Professional Performance for Years 0-6.

It was a long-awaited day of celebration at Kristin School this morning as Prime Minister John Key performed the official opening of Kristin's new Middle School Learning Centre (MSLC).

On Wednesday 4 March, five Kristin students travelled to the Grocery Industry Council Workshop in the city, to speak on the chosen topic for the conference - ‘Pandemics’.

A North Shore resident has won the Yellow Pages Group Art Awards for Auckland, thanks to support from her school and votes from the public.
Jennifer Gottschalk is a teacher in Kristin Middle School whose artwork has been chosen as the cover of the 2009 Auckland White pages. Over 50 entries were received for the annual competition which were narrowed down to three finalists in October last year by an expert panel of judges.

The whole of Kristin School had their photo taken yesterday, all at once. It was a simple procedure. All they had to do was assemble approximately 1680 students from age 4 to age 18 as well as 200 staff on the school field, in the shape of the number “35”. Anna Carruthers has won the Athletics Auckland 2007 Grand Prix Cross Country Series for the second time at the Auckland Domain last weekend.

Students from Kristin Middle School spent Saturday night, August 4, sleeping in the Old Elephant House at Auckland Zoo.
The school had won the Just Juice Grand Prize of an African-themed adventure at Auckland Zoo as a result of fundraising for the World Vision 40 Hour Famine. Kristin students efforts had raised the highest average dollar donation of any group or school in New Zealand during the appeal in March.

Kristin Elect to Learn From Local Experts
Kristin Middle School students have recently taken part in an Elective Programme to discover new talents.
Each year all of Kristin School's Year 7 and 8 children (ages 11-12) participate in this annual Elective Programme. They select a topic of choice to do for three weeks. This year the workshops took place on Wednesday afternoons in periods 5 and 6. Middle School teachers ran the workshops where parents and members of the community, experts in the relative topics, were invited to lend their knowledge and enthuse the students.

Kristin School Brings Home Gold!
The Kristin Senior School Choir, Euphony, have once again won Gold at the National Big Sing Finale held at the Christchurch Town Hall on Sunday 19 August.
The Big Sing is the secondary schools choral festival organised nationwide by the New Zealand Choral Federation each year.

Kristin School Aims and Wins
Kristin Middle School have won the Premiere Award at the New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schooling (AIMS) Games held in Tauranga, 2-7 September.
A selection of Year 7 and 8 Kristin students travelled to the Bay of Plenty last weekend, nervous about the competition they might encounter but eager to mix with the other schools in the tournament. 59 Kristin boys and girls competed against more than 64 participating schools.
